Colour and Abstraction:
George Blacklock in conversation with Jeffrey Dennis, introduced by Jheni Arboine

1st February 2016 Banqueting Hall Chelsea College of Arts 6 - 7 pm, followed by refreshments and book-signing

Join us to celebrate the publication of Colour and Abstraction by George Blacklock, artist and Dean of Chelsea College of Arts. Blacklock's career as a painter and teacher spans over 40 years. He will discuss his work and influences, and how they have fed into his book, which, through the lens of his own very personal approach to painting, blends a tour of Western art history with a discussion of the mechanics and methodologies of making paintings. Come along and find out about the 'theory of joints', the 'antics of pictorial space' and 'uncooperative colour'. What is the role of such a book within the context of contemporary art education? Does it address a perceived gap in how Painting is discussed in art schools, and in how artists attempt to teach?
'Colour and Abstraction' by George Blacklock is published by The Crowood Press Ltd, It will be availble to buy at the event, and book-signing and refreshments will take place at the end of the talk.
